About Kate
Kate qualified as a children’s nurse over 25 years ago; spending 20 years specialising in paediatric endocrinology. She is a NMC accredited Nurse Teacher and also a Children’s Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Kate leads the UK’s only annual paediatric NMP cohort, and also leads on the case study for all cohorts.

About Shalini
Shalini Ganasan-Ryan

Shalini is a clinical pharmacist by background with 20 years experience. Her early career as a pharmacist was spent at the national pharmaceutical regulatory agency after which she moved to the community and hospital setting. She qualified as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in 2018 and spent time working as an ACP in the Emergency Department of a large teaching hospital in East London, the local General Practice (GP) and NHS 111. Having worked at Health Education England for 5 years, leading workforce transformation and education activities for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, Shalini currently works part-time for NHS England on the Workforce, Training and Education directorate.
Shalini has a keen interest in medicolegal issues, having completed the Masters in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice 14 years ago. She is currently an Economic and Social Research Council scholar, investigating Safety-II and resilience in healthcare, employing mixed methods as part of her PhD. She also sits on the executive team for the Society for Studies in Organizing Healthcare (SHOC). Her teaching interests include endocrinology and care of the elderly.

Mohammed Miah

About Mohammed
With over 10 years’ experience as a Senior Pharmacist, Mohammed undertook his foundation training in hospitals across South East London. He has experience in opening and managing a new community pharmacy. Currently working as an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist in General Practice, he specialises in long-term conditions management and medication reviews. Mohammed worked as the Pharmacy Lead for Lambeth NHS CCG Local Care Network for the development and establishment of services as well as supporting workforce training and development. He remains the current Lead Pharmacist for Bromley Primary Care Networks alongside his role as Senior Lecturer for the Non-Medical Prescribing course specialising in pharmacology and drug dosing calculations.

Farrah Khan

About Farrah
Farrah is a paediatric pharmacist with over 35 years’ experience in primary, secondary and tertiary care across London. During this time, she has held various senior roles at Whipps Cross University Hospital and at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. Farrah continues to maintain links with Bart’s Health and covers occasional shifts for the paediatric pharmacy team. She has been a guest lecturer on the LSBU Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) course since its inception in 2003, subsequently joining the NMP academic team in 2016. Farrah is now Associate Professor Pharmacotherapeutics, teaching on both the adult and paediatric NMP modules. As well as contributing to the overall programme, she is responsible for preparing and co-ordinating the pharmacology exam. Farrah has worked at a national level with several key organisations. Her appointments include working with the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG), the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC). She was also a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council’s (GPhC) Standard Setting Panel for eight years. This panel is responsible for standardising the pharmacist pre-registration exam in the UK. More recently she became a Director at the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association.

Afusat Osewa
Senior Lecturer and Advanced Clinical Practitioner
About Afusat
Afusat is a registered nurse by background, with experiences within the acute, community and primary care settings. Previously working to support the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG- now ICB). Afusat has background experience of care provision within the Out Of Hours (OOH) settings. She sits on the HRA ethics committee and is a member of the LSBU ethics committee and systematic review board. Afusat is the module lead for clinical assessment skills for the district nurses and she also supervises master’s students with their dissertation as part of her role here at LSBU. Afusat continues to work in practice as an advanced clinical practitioner alongside her role at LSBU. She has keen interest in asthma and she is currently undertaking her PhD in asthma studies.
